Fashion of the future uses data to reward wearers

The only thing better than sporting your new clothes is getting rewarded for doing it.

Lifestyle brand Tommy Hilfiger recently released a line of clothing that can track your behavior in exchange for rewards.

Tommy Jeans Xplore is a new line of clothing and accessories that use a smart tracking device paired with an app to send feedback to the company and share rewards with the users.

Each item of clothing in the Xplore line is embedded with a low-energy blue-tooth smarttag. When you download their compatible iOS Tommy Jeans Xplore app, it allows users to communicate location and duration of wear with the company. Then you can start earning rewards like concert tickets and store points whenever you wear one of their garments.

Not everyone is thrilled at the idea of more data being shared for marketing purposes. Some Twitter users referred to it as “Big Brother” while another questioned why they would need this.

Would you rather have jeans that reward you, or rather not share too much information with corporations? Let me know in the comments below.
